S.M.R. Engineering Services are able to undertake most repair and manufacturing tasks for miniature railways.  In the past we have built new engines and rolling stock, restored old engines, sourced and supplied complete railways and much more.

Our mechanical engineering workshop is located in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.  There are normally a range of projects underway; below is just some of the work lined up at present.

New Open Coaches to Suit 10¼” Gauge Railways

We will shortly be building some additional open coaches for the Watford Miniature Railway, and are taking expressions of interest for more coaches to be built as part of the batch.

Based on the existing design in use at Watford but with updates to take account of modern engineering methods, they will provide high density passenger capacity ideal for busy commercial railways.  Although designed for 10¼” gauge, they can also be built to 7¼” gauge.

Rebuild of 10 1/4″ Gauge Diesel Locomotive

Work has recently commenced on the restoration and rebuild of this 10¼” gauge diesel locomotive.  It is being rebuilt to utilise the same diesel engine and hydraulic transmission as used in the two diesel locomotives at Watford – which have given reliable service on a commercial railway for over 20 years each.  When completed in early 2019 it will be available for sale, guideline price of £15,000.
